Update:
After switching to a new theme with a bajillion options (thanks for the tip, Alex!), I'm mostly happy with the site. Please leave a comment and let me know if anything looks wonky, ugly, or just plain "not right" to you.

No, you're not going crazy. I'm screwin' around with the site coding and themes again. I'll post when I'm done messin' stuff up.
